AE Carlson Design & Build's ADU track record
We haven't found ADU permits under this company's name in the City of San Diego's open data. That's common when a designer or the homeowner pulls the permit, or when the work is in another city. Ask AE Carlson Design & Build for addresses of ADUs they've finished.
Why they're listed as an ADU builder: ADU work described on its website.
Before you sign with AE Carlson Design & Build
- Ask for the license number on the contract. It should read #1115290 and the business name should match A E CARLSON DESIGN & BUILD.
- Keep the deposit small. For home improvement contracts California caps the down payment at $1,000 or 10% of the price, whichever is less.
- Ask who will be on site. This license is exempt from workers' comp, which is only allowed with no employees. If a crew shows up, ask who employs them and how they're insured.
- Make sure they pull the permit. The contractor, not you, should apply for the building permit, so the city holds them responsible for the work.
