  • Classification A B license covers new homes, including detached ADUs.
  • Bond Every active contractor must carry one. No bond on file is a red flag.
  • Workers' comp Insured, or exempt only if the business has no employees.

Common questions

Is this the official CSLB license lookup?

No. We search the Contractors State License Board's public data download for San Diego County B (General Building) licenses, refreshed monthly. For the official, real-time status use the CSLB Instant License Check.

Why can't I find my contractor?

We cover active B (General Building) licenses with a San Diego County address. Your contractor may be licensed in another county, under a different classification or legal name, or their license may be inactive. Check the official CSLB lookup before you sign.

What should a good license record show?

An active status with no disciplinary actions, a B classification for new construction such as an ADU, a contractor's bond on file, and workers' comp insurance or a valid exemption, which is allowed only for contractors with no employees.
